Abstract: Applied Biosystems offers a variety of tools for studying miRNAs. In this session, we will focus on using TaqMan quantitative PCR to measure the amounts of miRNAs. TaqMan miRNA assays use four oligonucleotides to provide a very high level of specificity to the detection - a critical factor when looking at small, closely related family members. These assays can be run individually or in panels for profiling. In addition to pre-made assays for mature miRNAs, Applied Biosystems now offers custom designed small RNA TaqMan assays and TaqMan assays specific for primary forms of the miRNAs.
Presenter Biography: Marcia Slater joined Applied Biosystems in 1996 as a Field Applications Specialist. Her primary focus is quantitative PCR including gene expression studies, genotyping, and microRNA profiling. Prior to joining Applied Biosystems, she spent six years in pharmaceutical research at Berlex Laboratories and the Schering-Plough Research Institute.
